Be Aware And Share (BAAS)
Ioannina, Greece
“Be Aware And Share” (BAAS) is an independent non-profit organisation that supports people in need and contributes to social integration. Founded in September 2015 in Basel (Switzerland), BAAS primarily focuses on supporting people fleeing into Europe. In addition to material and social support in crisis areas, educational and leisure activities for refugees, BAAS also does awareness and informative work in Switzerland. At the moment, the organisation is mainly focusing on supporting refugees in Ioannina in north-west Greece in their community centre. The activities are carried out by volunteers and are financed exclusively by donations. The work is politically independent. The organisation currently has around 17 volunteers across the centre and offering their time remotely.
The goal of BAAS is to contribute to a peaceful, solidary and mutually inclusive society. BAAS is committed to sharing resources and knowledge across cultural boundaries, prejudice and material inequalities. BAAS stands for the idea that a successful and peaceful future for our societies is only possible through the full potential and voice of all of its members.
BAAS supports people by covering basic material needs, such as access to clothing and through educational work, spaces are created for people to develop their language skills. At the same time, the organisation raises awareness of the challenges and opportunities of mutual social inclusion. BAAS thus creates a close connection between humanitarian projects on site and raising awareness among the Swiss population and political decision-makers.
